90-99 MR2 DOOR TRIM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove the door panel. There are screws by the door knob and the door pull/window switch. The rest of the panel has clips so pry it off the door with a flat screw driver, gently but insistently. :) Use wax and grease remover and for extra measure use some alcohol to remove any protectant or residue.

2. Lay the door panel leather cover over the door panel. The leather provided does not cover the center of the door panel. Use a sharpie to mark some x's on where it should lay down to make it easier to center the leather.

3. Spray 3M 08090 Super trim adhesive onto the door panel and leather. Wait about a 2-3 min before installing the leather onto the door panel. Find a helper to help you hold the leather up while installing the leather onto the door panel. Start from the center and work your way out.

4. You will then need to cut the excess leather and cut the leather out where the screws go.

5. If you are not installing the door inserts, you can reinstall the panel into the car now. Otherwise, proceed to step 6.

6. Purchase thin sheet metal from the hardware store. You will need a sheet that is 24x30 inches at the minimum.

Or re-use the inserts you already have. I decided to go with sheet metal since I wanted to retain my old inserts for resale.

7. Trace the insert over the sheet metal and use tin snips to cut the sheet metal or this is what you'll have once you strip the leather from your oem leather insert.

8. Install thin foam padding 1/4 inch or less. Joann fabrics or any fabric store will sells "headliner material" which is less than 1/4 inch thick. Use 3M 08090 super trim adhesive which can be purchased at any auto paint supply store. Spray the adhesive onto the metal insert first and sandwich the foam and metal together after a few minutes, then trim off the excess foam.

9. Lay down your leather insert with the back facing up. Spray the adhesive on the leather and the insert.

10. Lay the insert on top and make sure it is centered. Wrap the edges of the leather over the edges of the insert and let dry for 5 minutes.

11. This is what you should have after letting it dry.

12. Install onto the door panel. Reinstall the door panel back into the car.

ENJOY YOUR NEW LEATHER TRIM!

Useful tip

You have installed a product made out of genuine leather. As you know, to maintain a leather product in good condition, you should take care of it. We suggest occasionally (every 4-6 week for example) applying some leather conditioner/UV protector to keep your leather from drying up in the sun and cracking.
