92-96 TOYOTA CARINA INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Unscrew the shiftknob counter-clockwise. Open the ashtray in the center console, and take out the plastic pop-bolt inside.

2. Pull out the ashtray and unplug the electrical cords.

3. Unscrew four screws on the sides of the center console. There are two on each side in the front.

4. Remove two screws located in the storage container.

5. Remove the frame/cover around the e-break by removing the screw in it. Since it's also fastened with clips, you need to slide it out of these.

6. Reach in under the console and pop out the seat heater switches in and unplug them.

7. The entire console should now be free. Hold it in the back abnd lift up, sliding it free from the two positioning clips in the front (straight under the A/C).

8. The console is now free. You simply pop the boot out of the clips holding it on the backside of the console. Cut the old boot open and take out he bracket that were holding it to the clips. Cut it in one place to that you can slide the new boot onto the bracket. Install the new boot in the clips of the console.

9. Before installing the console, you would maybe like for the boot to hold itself up, not sliding down the stick. To prevent this from happening i simply attatched a ziptie (and a part of a rubber hose which were a prefect fit for my stick) where the upper hole of the boot should be held in place. Simple and effective.

But if you want a much more comfortable and, not least, good looking shifter I recommend to shorten it. It's easily done with a grinder and some welding. Simply cut about 4-5 centimeters of the stick at the bend (aprox. At the middle of the stick) and weld the top and the bottom together. I would NOT recommend doing this inside the car. Take the stick out from underneat and do it. Welding and grinding inside the car would most likely damage the interior.

Now you slide the console back in place (remember to re-install the seat heater switches) and guide the sitck through your new boot. Install the screws from where you pulled them out.

CONGRATULATIONS - YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED YOUR NEW LEATHER BOOTS!

Useful tip

You have installed a product made out of genuine leather. As you know, to maintain a leather product in good condition, you should take care of it. We suggest occasionally (every 4-6 week for example) applying some leather conditioner/UV protector to keep your leather from drying up in the sun and cracking.
